Chief Health Officer Professor Paul Kelly said that “this is not the time to be complacent” because of the escalating COVID situation in Sydney, 77 new cases of local infection have been added, and a woman in her 90s has died.
Professor Kelly said that this woman in her 90s is not part of an aged care facility, nor is it someone who “has the opportunity to get vaccinated.”
“I now express my condolences to that particular family,” he said.
“We can all be infected with COVID-19, and as we have seen in Sydney in recent days, some of us can become seriously ill.
“So now is not a time for complacency, nor a time for depression, but a time to truly recognize this and take responsibility for yourself, your family, and your community.”
Professor Kelly said that in view of the COVID situation, the federal government will place a “very vivid” advertisement in Sydney, conveying a very clear message.
“Stay at home. Take the test. Make an appointment for vaccinations-they are the three messages in the advertisement, so be aware that it is very visual, it means visualization, and it aims to push this information to the home, which is very important .”
He also talked about the situation at Summit Aged Care in Baulkham Hills, which had an active outbreak.
“Six residents have been transferred from the facility and transferred to the hospital to receive the best care to protect the residents of this aged care facility,” he said.
“Five of these six people have been fully vaccinated. Unfortunately, the sixth person has not been vaccinated. I can report that she is currently unwell, severely unwell in the hospital.”
