On July 1, outside the legislature of Winnipeg and Manitoba, a statue of Queen Victoria was torn down, sparking outrage at the discovery of an unmarked grave of Canadian aboriginal children. A group of protesters tore down the statue on Canada’s National Day-an annual celebration marking the country’s federal state. This video uploaded by Instagram user Lúcia Rios shows a group of people pulling the statue from the base with ropes. According to local media citing police sources, at least one person was arrested after the statue collapsed. Unmarked cemeteries were recently discovered on or near the premises of the former boarding school, which intensified protests across Canada. Image credit: Lúcia Rios via Storyful
