Victoria’s chief health officer Brett Sutton said he could not provide “details” about how long the lockdown in the state will extend until he sees what happens to the number of cases overnight.
“I can’t provide you with the specific details of the time required,” he said.
“So far, we have only four days of lockdown experience.
“In terms of the cases that emerged today, we are just beginning to see the benefits of the lockdown, so we really need to be reminded of anything that happened today and overnight in order to be able to conduct a comprehensive assessment.
“This is not a question of contact tracing capabilities. We have the best contact tracing capabilities.
“It’s definitely a question. It’s such a contagious and moving so fast variant, how tricky it is.”
