After the devastating storm caused great damage, more than 1,400 homes in Victoria will be without electricity until July 10.
After last week’s “unprecedented” storm, more than 3,000 Victorian households will be reconnected in the next 36 hours, but other households will have to wait until next month.
The storm on July 9 caused immense damage. Trees and electrical wires were cut down, and thousands of homes were cut off from electricity.
Energy Minister Lily D’Ambrosio stated that the utility AusNet has suggested that 3172 will reconnect before the end of this weekend.
However, there is a warning: strong winds are expected in parts of the Dandenong Ranges, and more trees weakened by the storm may fall and remove more wires.
Ms. D’Ambrosio stated that another 186 households will be reconnected by Friday, but 1450 households will have power outages before July 10.
Some of these residents received 8kW generators—enough to power some lights and a small heater—to restore some comfortable homes while they waited.

Fuel, tanks, lead, and important safety instructions are also included.
More than 4,000 Victorians who suffered prolonged power outages received compensation of A$1680.
Ms. D’Ambrosio said that AusNet has approved and verified 100 applications.
“You don’t have to wait for AusNet to send you a text message… You can visit their website at any time,” she said.
After the overnight heavy rain, six minor flood warnings have been issued, with rainfall reaching as high as 46 mm in some areas.
