Socceroos are competing to participate in the FIFA World Cup for the fifth time in a row, and now the Australians know what will hinder them.
In the third and final stage of the 2022 FIFA World Cup Asian Qualifiers, the national football team has been assigned to Group B.
After performing well in the second round of the qualifiers, Australia joined Japan, Saudi Arabia, China, Oman and Vietnam.
The top two countries in each group will directly qualify for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, while the two third-ranked countries must compete for a seat in the intercontinental playoffs.
Japan ranks 28th in FIFA, becoming the biggest threat to Australia’s fifth consecutive World Cup qualification.
In the second round of the qualifiers, Australia, Japan and Saudi Arabia all finished first in the group, while China, Oman and Vietnam finished runners-up.
Group A includes other countries eligible to enter the third round. Iran, South Korea, the United Arab Emirates, Iraq, Syria and Lebanon are all facing the draw with Australia.
