Victorian health authorities have issued a late-night update showing that there have been positive cases of the coronavirus in the MCG football match, warning fans that they face the threat of exposure to the virus.
The alert for the Collingwood and Adelaide Port competition held at MCG on Sunday afternoon, May 23, was issued shortly before morning and evening on Tuesday night. The authorities recommended that they review CCTV footage to determine whether the current warning area should be expanded.
It is understood that at least 23,000 people attended the meeting.
The case is located in Zone 4 on the 1st floor of the Great Southern Stand (the end of Punt Rd in the stand).
Victoria Health stated that it will directly contact people sitting in level 1 zone 4 (the person next door between M1 and M16 on the ticket) to provide advice to test and isolate them until they are negative.You can view the map in Full here.
The statement said: “Further review of closed-circuit television recordings will be conducted to determine whether the proposed scope of testing and isolation will be expanded.”
The Ministry of Health will directly provide more specific advice to some individuals who have the closest contact with the positive case.
“Other people who are not attending the MCG in these areas will be advised to check for symptoms and be checked if there is any development.”
It reassures AFL and MCC that “have been prepared for this situation through multiple simulations, with contact information linked to ticketing data and QR codes.
“We thank them for their contribution to Victoria’s public health response.”
Announced more exposure locations
Prior to this, as part of Melbourne’s growing COVID cluster, the company had earlier revealed more exposure locations, including a large shopping mall and a McDonald’s.
The Ministry of Health on Tuesday afternoon listed five stores in the Highpoint shopping area in Maribyrnong, where the infected person had visited.
Previously, the health department only said that Highpoint Level 2 and Level 3 exposed the virus between 5.15pm and 6.35pm on May 20.
It also listed McDonald’s in Clifton Hill and the Chinese restaurant in the CBD as new exposure locations.
Anyone who has access to the following is urged to conduct testing and quarantine until the results are received:
- Relocation of Highpoint; Level 3; May 20th, 5.55pm-6.30pm
- Kidstuff Highpoint; Level 2; 5.20-5.55pm on May 20th
- Ishka High Point; Level 2; 5.45-6.45 pm on May 20
- Lush cosmetic high point; Level 2; 6.05-6.35 pm on May 20
- Toyworld Highpoint; Level 2; May 20th, 5.30-6.20 pm
- From 11 a.m. to 11:50 a.m. on May 21 at the Bamboo Building, 47 Little Bourke Street
- Clifton Hill at McDonald’s on May 22 from 6 to 7 pm.
On Tuesday, four more people tested positive for the virus, bringing the virus cluster to nine cases.
Genome sequencing has linked the outbreak to the Wollert case earlier this month.
Health Secretary Martin Foley said: “We are managing many other small, private or closed contact sites, which have not yet been published online.”
“One is a small workplace for Case 1. Only four contacts were reported, and all of them were tested negative.”
Approximately 10 important public places were designated as exhibition venues this week, including multiple shopping centers, Woolworths and Nando’s.
However, the authorities are still concerned about commuters who took the train from Craigieburn to Southern Cross. The original Wollert case occurred on May 7.
The infected took the Craigieburn train to Southern Cross at 5.28pm and departed from Flinders St to Craigieburn at 11.05pm.
Chief Health Officer Brett Sutton said on Tuesday: “In the Wallert case, I was worried about the people on the crowded train on the Craigieburn line.”
“There may still be some cases in train travel, they may not be contagious, but it would be great to identify them.”
Level 1 sites include Jump! May 21st at Bundoora Swimming School, May 19th at Dalton Road (Naldo) at Dalton Road (Dalton Rd), May 22nd at Woolworths Epping North, May 20th At the Highpoint Shopping Center in Maribyrnong.
In an emergency, dozens of close contacts related to swimming schools are being tested.
Anyone who visited these locations during this period was ordered to be tested immediately and quarantined for 14 days, regardless of the outcome.
Level 2 sites include Futsal Brunswick on May 23, Epping North Shopping Center on May 22, House and Party Store on May 22, Urban Diner Food Court at Pacific Epping Shopping Center on May 23, May Shell Coles Express Reservoir and BT on the 18th were in the Conner Nature Reserve in the reservoir on May 21.
Residents in the Melbourne city have reintroduced a series of restrictions to slow down any potential spread.
The new restrictions include wearing masks indoors under all circumstances, allowing only five people to enter the home, and allowing 30 people to attend public gatherings.
