There are so many things to love about this stunning North Adelaide home-ask its owner, David, and he will be happy to tell you.
David is in 95 Palmer Square About 15 years ago, I was attracted by its location and the elegance it embodies.
“At the time we lived in Medidi, with a small house and three children. We wanted to upgrade to a larger house. Palmer Square definitely caught my eye,” he said.

“This place has been sitting in the market for about 18 months. I went in in the morning and looked around. It was absolutely amazing-it has incredible views and will never disappear. I really fell in love with it. I bought it there at the time.
“I hope this will happen again because it really is such a beautiful property.
“When we bought it, the entire back was incomplete, and the entire wall was incomplete.
“The back fence is just galvanized iron. The water tank in the house next door is leaking, and there is a Hills lifting clothesline in the middle-it’s terrible. I believe this is why no one buys it, because it is so offensive.
“I spent about $800,000 to build a swimming pool and a spa in the backyard, did all the retaining walls, did all the things outside, and now it is an absolutely beautiful house.”
Although the appearance of the house has changed a lot since David bought the house, he said that its interior has basically remained the same, and the family simply retained the characteristics and soul of the original property.
“The walls are 2.5 feet thick, so there may be a storm outside without you even knowing it,” he said.
“This house was built in 1883 for industrialist George Phillip Doolette, and was later used as an Adelaide kindergarten teacher training college, and later it became a private residence.
“I believe that all the old lead lamps in the house are original. The stairs are mahogany and are listed on the heritage list, as are all the bluestones and gates.
“It has 20 rooms, including five bathrooms and six bedrooms, and two laundry rooms-very large. “Really, this is for a family with three or four children going to high school, because this is us The stage of life when you bought it. ”
The residence provides approximately 498.46 square meters of internal living space and a 15.08 square meter cellar.

Characteristic features abound, including 5-meter-high ceilings, ceiling roses, large chandeliers, wooden floors, and gorgeous skirting and cornices.
David said that its spacious floor plan and a series of outdoor entertaining spaces—including balconies, paved courtyards and upstairs balconies—make the home an ideal place for entertaining.
“The beauty of home is that when you are out, especially when the children are socializing, everyone will come to your home before you leave, and everyone will come back afterwards,” he said.
“You can check all your children at any time and find out who their friends are. In summer, everyone will come to use the backyard swimming pool.
“For entertainment, you have the back area near the swimming pool, the south side area; in the house, you have the back room, and the large room upstairs overlooking St. Peter’s Basilica-you open it and you can accommodate there 100 people without any problems.
“Then, for the dinner, you have the formal dinner room and another room in front, overlooking Palmer Square.
“Really, there are five or six areas in the house where parties can be held.
“We actually held two parties at the same time, which is no problem at all.”
As the children grew up and their own career paths, David said it was time to hand over the custody of this magnificent old house to someone who would like it.
“This is just a lovely property-my children have moved out now. This is a different period in my life, so it’s time for someone who really makes the most of it to enjoy it,” he said.
Although the house is amazing, David said its location in the north of Adelaide and on the edge of the city is the icing on the cake.
“You can walk to the Adelaide Oval. My kids used to walk to the tram for free rides. In summer we walk to O’Connell Street for dinner,” he said.
“People talk about Amway Park, but the Cathedral District does provide the best way of life.”
