A man accused by the police of acting as a “supervisor” for a drug-importing gang outside Sydney Airport has been indicted.
A man who allegedly worked as a “supervisor” for a drug cartel at Sydney Airport has been arrested and charged with participating in Operation Ironside.
According to NCA NewsWire, the 31-year-old Frank Meredith (Frank Meredith) works outside the Dubai National Air Travel Agency (DNATA) airport owned by Emirates. After two years of investigation, he and a 35-year-old from Liverpool The year-old woman was arrested together.
The investigation resulted in the arrest of two men in March 2019 and the seizure of 38 kilograms of methamphetamine, which was allegedly imported to Sydney via Air Canada flights.
After the initial arrest, further investigations related to the An0m phone platform led to the suspected infiltration of Sydney Airport by the Australian Federal Police and suspected that Mr. Meredith was “acting as an import supervisor” at the airport.
AFP said in a statement released on Saturday: “The police will accuse the man of using encrypted devices and’burner’ phones to communicate with an expanded criminal syndicate.”
Allegedly, AFP intelligence from the Ironside operation showed that the group had begun planning to re-import through Sydney Airport after being arrested at the end of 2019.
According to the police, the new criminal group is composed of people with “trusted internal access rights” who use encrypted devices to communicate.
The police executed a search warrant in Liverpool on Thursday, where they seized approximately $100,000 in cash, as well as small amounts of steroids and prescription drugs.
Agence France-Presse said: “The investigators’ financial analysis of men and women in Liverpool revealed that they were suspected of handling approximately $600,000, suspected of being the proceeds of crime.”
Although DNATA confirmed that one of their Australian employees was detained by the police, they would not comment further.
A spokesperson said: “DNATA is committed to ethical business conduct and abides by all laws, regulations and industry standards.”
“Our strict governance guidelines make every employee a clear understanding of the rules. We are fully cooperating with the authorities to investigate.”
Meredith is expected to appear in the Central District Court on Friday on charges of importing border controlled drugs, and the woman will appear in the Downing Center District Court on July 6 and face charges of handling the proceeds of crime.
