According to local news reports, Butler County Coroner Wayne Garlock said water skiing may have been a factor in the accident when the tropical depression Claudette was crossing the area. According to Garlock, eight of the young victims were in a Tarapsa County Girls Ranch truck, ranging in age from 4 to 17 years old. The other two victims were a man and his 9-month-old daughter.
