NSW teacher vaccine prioritization is “good breakthrough”

Angelo Gavrielatos, chairman of the New South Wales Teachers Federation, said that giving priority to teachers in the most affected areas of New South Wales is a “good breakthrough”.

Mr. Gavrielatos said that although there is no mandatory requirement for vaccination, “the choice exists and the priority is made by the teacher”.

“This is a great breakthrough, and we certainly hope this is the first step in prioritizing teachers across the state,” he told Sky News host Chris Kenny.

He said that the Delta variant “has a lot of attention for all of us,” including children and young people.

“As of last week, 37 young people between the ages of 10 and 19 had contracted the virus and spread the virus as a result, and there were about 25 children under the age of 10.”
