NSW sexual assault reform is “symbolic” rather than actual

According to National Criminal Justice Spokesperson Greg Barns SC, the sexual assault reforms in New South Wales are “symbolic” rather than actual. This is when the Berejiklian government is preparing to adopt the 44 recommendations outlined in the NSW Law Reform Commission’s review of consent for sexual offences. Mr. Barnes said that these reforms may have some educational value, but the overall impact is unlikely to be significant. “Although it can play a role in educating the community about consent issues, our view of the alliance is that it may have little change in court proceedings.”
