Another NRL player violated the league’s biosafety rules because the game faces a major struggle to complete the rest of the season.
James Roberts has become the latest NRL star to break the alliance’s Covid agreement. In the photo, he is on the balcony of the hotel.
NRL issued a statement clarifying the violation of Roberts.
The statement read: “NRL today reported to the Queensland Health Authority the violation of the current balcony order by Western Tigers player James Roberts.”
“NRL and Wests Tigers are providing additional health support to James to help him cope with the quarantine and will continue to work closely with the Queensland Department of Health.”
Due to the strict hygiene regulations in Queensland, all doors and windows have been sealed with electrical tape.
Roberts was quarantined after being classified as a close contact of the Sydney Covid exposure site, which meant that when they initially moved to Queensland, he could not travel with the entire Tigers.
Last week, Queensland Chief Medical Officer Jeanatte Young issued a severe warning to the NRL that threatening the alliance may be revoked by the authorities.
“I am very close to it (withdrawing the exemption),” Yang said on Friday.
“Yes, I am very, very worried about the situation of these NRL players.
“You will see images of family hotels where they share merchandise between balconies.
“If I have more violations, I am very worried.
“This is for all of them. This is too risky. We can’t let people deliberately break the rules.”
Young’s warning came after news of Api Koroisau and his repeated breaches of biosecurity came to light last week. He allegedly infiltrated the Blue Camp twice during Origin.
Maroons forward Jai Arrow also broke the Covid agreement and sneaked a woman into the Maroons camp before the third game.
Both Koroisau and Arrow were suspended for two games and fined $35,000.
