Luxury homes in southern Sydney compete with a series of Versace homes

Call it the Versace effect.

More and more homeowners are decorating their houses with the inspiration of Italian luxury brands-usually with different results.

Among the fully-decorated Versace houses, there is a beach house located in a luxurious enclave in the St. George area in southern Sydney.

The Sandringham house, which went on the market this week for approximately $7.8 million, includes ample chandeliers, Roman-style columns and textured ceilings.

Roman-style columns are also a prominent feature of the exterior of the house, not only forming the facade, but also the swimming pool.

Most rooms have water views, as does the large roof terrace.

Liam Tsaprazis, the listing agent of McGrath-Sans Souci, said this is a property that attracts a “niche market.”

“Some people won’t like it, others absolutely like it,” he said, adding that the luxurious Versace accessories were installed by a former owner who “spent a lot of money” to build the house.

The beach house offers beautiful views of Botany Bay and other areas.

It is understood that the former owner sold the house to the current seller in 2015 for a suburban record of $7.8 million. It is understood that he was inspired by the Palazzo complex on the Gold Coast.

Palazzo itself is a reproduction of the gorgeous architecture and decorations in the luxurious Miami mansion where the late Gianni Versace once lived. It is currently a hotel called The Villa Casa Casuarina.

Mr. Tsaprazis stated that he hoped buyers would be interested in the Sandringham house. “(The former owner) really surpassed it when it was built. Not many families have this kind of wealth.”

The nearby Ida St residence also has Italian-style finishes.

The Sandringham house is not the only Versace-style property in the area-the house near Ida St was sold for slightly more than $5.32 million in 2020, and includes a large number of columns, chandeliers and golden decorations.

In the southwest of Sydney, a three-bedroom house in the suburb of Casula is for sale with a series of Versace-style elements.

There are various statues inside and outside, and various pillars.

This three-bedroom house has been on the market since 2019, and the last time it was listed was US$1.2 million to US$1.3 million.

Herron Todd White valuation expert Kevin Brogan said that placing very unusual features in a house is usually risky for homeowners because it may limit the number of potential buyers.

“You must find someone with the same taste as you,” he said. “In a rising market, this may not be a problem, but if the market is not as strong, it may be a problem.

“Anyone who doesn’t like this taste must consider the cost of making changes or canceling everything. This may affect the marketability of the property.”
