U.S. food safety standards have been questioned in a viral TikTok for ingredients used in fast food.

After a viral video highlights the dangerous ingredients in popular products such as McDonald’s fries, American residents are acting as “laboratory rats” for food safety politicians, which has aroused growing concerns.

“The U.S. is doing the opposite. They won’t do it until it’s proven to be risky. We are laboratory rats.”

She also showed the differences in the composition of Quaker oats between the United States and the United Kingdom, emphasizing that American products “do not have real strawberries.”

The situation is even worse for Mountain Dew. The US version contains a petroleum-based food dye called Yellow 5 and brominated vegetable oil (BVO) that is banned in most other countries.

Heinz, the company behind the classic condiment ketchup, has also come under fire for including high-fructose corn syrup in its American products—research shows that this ingredient can have an addictive effect on the brain.

Doritos is another product with a mile-long ingredient list in the United States, which again includes dyes made from petroleum.

Such dyes have been found to be contaminated with carcinogens in the UK. When included in the product, it must be stated that it “may have an adverse effect on children’s activities and attention.”

Thousands of people were shocked by this video, and some believed that the structure of the U.S. healthcare system was related to substandard food safety standards.

“Other countries do not allow poison to be used as food. They are not trying to make their people sick because health care is underwritten by the government,” one wrote.

“Because the United States benefits from patients and other countries pay for their health care, they want healthy people,” another said.

Others pointed out that in some cases, the same ingredients are used, but only named differently relative to the country/region where they will be sold.
