After several students tested positive for Covid-19, hundreds of students in two schools in the eastern suburbs of Sydney are on alert.
As the school holidays began, two other schools in Sydney’s eastern suburbs found themselves caught in the city’s latest virus outbreak.
Four students from South Coogee Public School have now tested positive for Covid-19, and there have been reports that a student from Emanuel School Randwick has a positive case.
After two students tested positive on Sunday, more than 500 students from South Coogee Public were asked to quarantine for two weeks.
This happened after the two original cases reported on Friday, which were related to the Bundy cluster.
The news was released at the beginning of the school holiday, which means that on-site learning will not be affected.
A spokesperson for the New South Wales Department of Education said: “This brings the total number of positive students at South Coogee Public Schools to four.”
“Based on the new cases and due to the many interactions between children of different age groups, the New South Wales Department of Health has updated its recommendations.
“Now all students are close contacts. Regardless of the negative test result, they must be tested and self-quarantine for 14 days.”
“Our priority is to always ensure the safety and well-being of employees and students.”
The spokesperson said the school is working closely with the New South Wales Department of Health and the department.
There are also reports that a student at Emanuel School Randwick tested positive after the principal sent an email alert to parents on Sunday night.
On Sunday, New South Wales recorded 30 new cases, the first day of a two-week city-wide lockdown.
Of the 112 local infection cases recorded since June 16, when the driver transporting the international crew was reported, 110 were related to the Bundy infection group, and the other 2 were still under investigation.
One of them is a third-grade student at St. Charles Catholic Elementary School in Waverley, Bondi.
Given that many families are now locked down during the holidays, the outbreak has thrown school holidays into chaos.
