Ferny Creek house inspired by Asian tea gardens, Cinque Terre, sells Japanese hot spring baths

Hidden in the mountains of the Yarra Mountains, this unparalleled artist’s house is specially designed for the whole family.

Inspired by Chinese and Japanese tea plantations and the Cinque Terre area on the Italian seafront, this decadent Ferny Creek estate is the vision of Brenden and Terry Abraham, who bought the land more than 40 years ago.

The couple who owns the successful local tea company Tea Leaves 29 Blinters Before expanding “above, below and around”, the address was where they raised their two children.

But after enjoying the property for many years, they were inspired by the peaceful work and leisure places and the buildings they saw, and they just put it on the market for between US$2.7 million and US$2.85 million.

“We decided to expand and develop the property to make it more valuable,” said Mr. Abraham, the trade architect.

“That happened between 2008 and 2013. This is about a five-year construction process.

“We live in the original house, with new developments above, below and around. It’s like living in a cocoon.”

The original house, now called the “corner” living area, was then renovated to complete the property.

The huge retreat called Omaroo now spans four floors. It includes five bedrooms, three of which have their own ensuite bathrooms, in addition to a gym, a dry sauna and a large garden covering an area of ​​3480 square meters.

Mr. Abraham also purchased a 110-year-old Chinese gate from an antique dealer in Abbotsford for the project and created a peaceful Japanese-style hot spring-style billiard room.

Italian ceramic tiles and Australian-made materials also run through, paying tribute to the roots of the supplier.

But Mr. Abraham said that living among the treetops is the biggest attraction of the property.

“I like to live there, mainly because of the environment,” he said.

“The house has circulating heating and double glazing. Even if it has 70 square meters (about 650 square meters), it is very warm and comfortable.

“We have a home gym that we use every day. We mainly use the swimming pool with our grandchildren.

“This is really family-oriented.”

Mr. Abraham said that when he was “in his seventies,” the hilly terrain bordering the national park became more challenging and affected their decision to sell.

He said he just hoped that “someone will love it like we do.”

Mr. Abraham said: “It’s a bit troublesome to leave a property where you put so much thought into it.”

“This is a great place to raise a family, all national values ​​and a laid-back lifestyle. It really appeals to us.

“There are also landscapes-cities and bays, the sun and places farther away. The sky changes every day, light, clouds, seasons, sunsets. That is what I miss most.”

Glenn Gardiner, director of Fletchers Yarra Ranges, said the property is “the kind of home you can be proud of.”

“(It’s very suitable for) those who see the change of trees instead of the change of the sea,” he said.

“It is designed around entertainment-you don’t need to have two or three children to fill the house, you can let friends and family come as a resort.

“The view is great, and there are many terraces to make a fairly hilly neighborhood usable and convenient.

“I don’t think there is a better house on the mountain.”
