After a driver and team leader made some “naive” comments, F1 champion Lewis Hamilton called it a rival.
Formula One champion Lewis Hamilton came forward against the rival Red Bull, saying that he was out to avoid any verbal war.
Although Hamilton may wish to get rid of the quarrel with the Red Bull Paddock, it is hard to deny that he is not feeling the pressure.
After five races this season, Hamilton found himself only 4 points behind Max Verstappen in the drivers’ standings.
“I’m not playing a mental game,” the Englishman said.
“The comments made by Christian (Horner, head of Red Bull Racing) are interesting, but I don’t care.
“They did a great job this weekend, that’s it. We also have some good games, but as I said, there are still 17 games to play.
“So when you get into a war of words, it starts to become a little naive.”
Horner is very happy to fan the flames between the two sides, claiming that Max is starting to get a little closer to Hamilton’s “skin”.
“Lewis loves all this trash, so let him go on. I think Max does his own thing, his own person,” Horner said.
“We haven’t even gotten close to half, so can you imagine if they were so close in the last few games?
“If these two guys are in the lead in the tournament and the relationship between them is very tense, there will inevitably be contact at some point.”
In order to put more pressure on Mercedes, they are also behind Red Bull in the constructors’ standings, even though they are only one point behind.
Interestingly, although Hamilton is ranked second, he has won three games this season, while Verstappen’s two games- Including the Dutch victory in Monte Carlo.
The battle between the two will undoubtedly become the key storyline of the upcoming Azerbaijan Grand Prix on June 6.
This race also provided an excellent opportunity for Australian driver Daniel Ricciardo, who will spend a miserable weekend in Monaco and give the Honey Badger a P12. The McLaren driver will hope to reproduce his heroic deeds in Baku in 2017, when he won the first Azerbaijan Grand Prix with Red Bull.
