Former New South Wales Governor Bob Carr stated that Australia could have been “more diplomatic” in its relations with China and would not “give up Australia’s interests.”
Mr. Carr said, “Diplomacy can teach us a lot” because it was “invented to allow us to deal with difficult relationships in international affairs”.
“We could have excluded Huawei from our national 5G network, but doing so would not make Australia look like it is urging the world to follow us and try to cause harm to one of China’s iconic companies,” he told Sky News Host Alan Jones.
He said that being more strategic would enable Australia to increase exports in the same way as other countries.
“We would have increased exports to China, at this moment, just like Japan, Canada and the United States.”
