Employees of Hong Kong’s largest democratic newspaper, Apple Daily, thanked citizens for their support after the newspaper’s headquarters announced the closure on Wednesday, June 23. According to the BBC, Apple Daily stated that for the safety of its employees, it has decided to “stop operations immediately after midnight.” On June 17, the police raided the offices of Apple Daily and arrested five directors under the National Security Law. According to “Apple Daily” reports, the employees’ residences were also searched. This video recorded by Galileo Cheng shows employees waving their mobile phones on the balcony of the Apple Daily office late Wednesday night.
