On Sunday, a man in Brisbane was crushed to death by scaffolding while watching his son play football. Friends are mourning his death.

37-year-old Andy Jones left his wife and four children after a tragic accident in Teralba Park in the northwest of the city.

Mr. Jones was watching an under-15 match at Mitchelton Football Club, and then the scaffolding (which is understood to be the platform used by the camera operator) fell on him just after noon.

He was taken to the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital but was pronounced dead shortly after arriving.

The football club confirmed the unfortunate news in a Facebook post on Monday, expressing condolences to Mr. Jones’ family and friends, and expressing support to any members who witnessed or were affected by the incident.

The club said: “We will keep all members fully informed when working with the Queensland Football Team and relevant authorities.”

The club has decided to suspend all football-related activities until Wednesday.

The post attracted dozens of comments and support, including local state legislator Tim Mander (Tim Mander).

“Unbelievably tragic news. I express my deepest condolences to my family and the entire club. My thoughts and prayers are with you,” he said.

In a separate online tribute, Hayley Hatton posted on Facebook: “An incredible person is gone [too] soon. Many Andy will miss you”.

Josh Hobart wrote: “I met Andy at a social event in the city. He is really warm and friendly. I will remember him for his pride in his wife and children. It’s too early to go. Dude.”

Family and friend Melissa Edwards (Melissa Edwards) launched a GoFundMe campaign on Monday to raise funds to pay for the funeral of Mr. Jones, with the goal of raising $20,000.

“Andy was killed in a terrible accident yesterday while watching his son’s football game. Andy left behind a loving wife and four children aged 2-14,” she wrote.

The Queensland Police said that the Forensic Incident Team will prepare a report for the coroner and urge anyone with footage or information about the incident to contact the police.

The Queensland football team shared a statement about the incident on Facebook on Monday.

“We are as worried as the club and the wider football community, and our thoughts are with family and club members present,” they said.

“Queensland Football Association will provide consultation and support services to the families of related personnel, club members including players and coaches, referees and volunteers, and those who witnessed the incident.

On Sunday, the Brisbane Airport Meteorological Bureau recorded a gust of 78 km/h. On Sunday morning, an area near Main Ridge issued a severe weather warning for destructive winds.
