On June 8, a polar storm swept across the southeastern states of Australia. Strong winds raged in parts of Melbourne, Victoria. Trees collapsed and hundreds of thousands of residents cut power. A video uploaded by Twitter user Rachel Maclean shows a large tree collapsed on a road in Upwey, a suburb of Melbourne. The Bureau of Meteorology has issued severe weather warnings for destructive winds in most parts of the state, warning locals that gusts can reach up to 100 km/h or 62 mph. According to Australia’s National Broadband Network, an estimated 200,000 houses have lost power due to destructive winds.Credit: Rachel McLean via story
