The Adelaide Ravens have requested an investigation into allegations of violations of Australian Covid-19 laws by staff and players on Sunday.
Last weekend, two Adelaide Ravens players appeared on the flight back from Sydney without wearing masks.
Photos of former captain Taylor Walker and defender Luke Brown were posted on the Nine Network on Friday. A few hours later, the Adelaide Ravens asked the AFL to investigate allegations of Covid-19 violations on the flight.
On Friday morning, the club issued a statement stating that “several players and staff” allegedly did not wear masks on the flight from Sydney to Adelaide last Sunday.
As of January this year, masks are mandatory in all airport terminals and domestic commercial flights in Australia.
“The club also acknowledged that the government requires people to wear masks at airports and all domestic commercial flights to minimize the risk of spreading COVID-19,” the club’s statement read.
“Our coaches, players and staff understand that it is an honour to play football during these times and it is also necessary to abide by the regulations and guidance of the health authorities.
“The club is fully cooperating with the league and awaits the results of the investigation.”
Adelaide’s statement did not specify which players did not wear masks during the flight.
“At present, AFL has knowledge of this matter and is investigating it,” an AFL representative told NCA NewsWire on Friday afternoon.
The Ravens had a relocation conflict with Richmond in Harbour City, but then flew home to prepare for the 12th round with the Magpies.
As Victoria continues to fight the recent outbreak of Covid-19, the South Australian government waited until Wednesday to approve Collingwood’s entry into the state.
Including players and coaching staff, only 35 club employees are allowed to enter Adelaide to participate in the game and will travel by chartered flight.
