According to Jack Houghton, digital editor of Sky News Australia, Paul Barry of the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) appeared to have adopted a “double standard” in defending the National Broadcasting Corporation’s reports. Australian Sharri Markson has been reporting on the early stages of the COVID-19 pandemic and has been leading the world. International newspapers followed her example, including employees of Wuhan Institute of Virology who fell ill and were admitted to the hospital in November 2019, before the first recorded case of COVID-19. Mr. Horton said that Barry has been using taxpayer-funded “criminals” to discredit Maxson’s work, mainly because her report mentioned the theory that the virus originated from the Wuhan Institute of Virology. “While the ABC may be happy to spend hundreds of thousands of taxpayers’ money to defend the publication of unsubstantiated allegations, it appears to have double standards when it comes to investigative news that is actually important,” Mr. Horton said. “This shows a sharp contrast between how much evidence is needed to publish devastating accusations against conservative politicians and how much evidence is needed to raise questions about the greatest global disaster in human memory.”
