Aston Villa has confirmed the signing of midfielder Emiliano Buendia from Norwich for a record price of 30 million pounds, plus additional fees, may bring the cost to 40 million pounds.
Buendia is Norwich’s best player of the season. They won the championship last season, scored 15 goals and had 16 assists. After Argentina’s World Cup qualifier against Colombia, he completed the medical and final terms and signed a five-year contract.
“Emiliano is equally capable as a wide attacker or as a No. 10 player. This is a great addition to our offensive options,” coach Dean Smith told Villa’s website. “We are very happy to sign such an exciting signing so early in the summer and look forward to Emi joining us in a full preseason game.”
Norwich signed the midfield organizer from Spanish club Getafe for approximately £1.6 million in 2018. Their sports director Stuart Weber said that once Boendia made up his mind and Vera came up with the right deal, the club had “almost no options” but had to approve the transfer.
“Although we are disappointed at the loss of an outstanding player, we should take a moment to be proud of Amy and the club’s journey,” Weber told the club’s website.
