2021 Copa America moves to Brazil: CONMEBOL

The Copa America will not be held in the two original host countries of Argentina and Colombia, but in Brazil.

The America’s Cup, the largest football tournament in South America, was moved to Brazil after the Covid-19 surge in Argentina on Monday and social unrest in Colombia caused the co-organizers to be deprived of the right to host the event.

With two weeks to go before kick-off, South America’s CONMEBOL Football Association wrote on Twitter: “The 2021 CONMEBOL America’s Cup will be held in Brazil!” The dates from June 13 to July 10 remain unchanged.

Brazil hosted the last America’s Cup in 2019.

The new host country, Brazil, is one of the most severely affected countries in the world, with the second highest number of deaths so far, with more than 460,000 and more than 16.5 million cases.

But ten days ago, CONMEBOL stripped Colombia of his duties during street protests. These protests were severely responded by the police and aroused condemnation from the international community. Dozens of people have died in the turmoil for over a month.
