There has been a worrying rise in Covid-19 cases in New South Wales, and officials have confirmed 10 new infections since yesterday.
The New South Wales Health Department revealed that five local infections were recorded in the 24 hours from last night to 8 pm, two of which were announced yesterday morning.
After the official reporting period, another seven cases of infection were recorded and will therefore be included in Wednesday’s figures. There are now 21 infections related to the Bondi epidemic.
The two cases announced yesterday included a woman in her 50s from the northern suburbs of Sydney and a man in her 30s from the eastern suburbs. They are all close contacts of previously reported cases and have been in isolation.
The other three cases reported at 8 o’clock last night included a woman in her 60s from Illawarra and a woman in her 40s from the northern suburbs. They are all close contacts of known cases and have been quarantined. . The third case is a female in her 20s, from the eastern suburbs, and is related to the Bundy infection group.
Of the 7 confirmed cases after this reporting period, 6 were family contacts of the previously isolated case, and 1 was a child attending elementary school in Dongjiao.

The Minister of Transport for New South Wales, Andrew Constance, issued a warning to residents of New South Wales this morning, saying that they are “clearly in danger of an outbreak”.

Covid restrictions may be extended

Ms. Berejiklian’s announcement came before a top epidemiologist called for a three-day rapid lockdown in Sydney.
Epidemiologist and World Health Organization consultant Professor Mary-Louis McLaws told ABC Radio that New South Wales needs to take the delta virus outbreak “very seriously”.
“If the numbers rise further, we should really consider implementing a three-day lockdown,” she said on Monday.
Professor McLoughs also said that all public places in the Greater Sydney area should be mandatory to wear masks.
Ms. Berejiklian previously refused to rule out stricter restrictions to control the epidemic.
