Brave, a mainstream browser focused on privacy, is the latest browser that integrates support for decentralized domains from the blockchain domain name provider Unstoppable Domains.
The Brave announced on Thursday that its browser now provides native support for encrypted domain name companies, allowing users to seamlessly access .crypto domains through desktop and Android applications.
This new feature unlocks access to 30,000 decentralized websites and more than 700,000 blockchain domain names registered in Unstoppable Domains. Through integration, the Brave browser supports decentralized networks that do not rely on traditional domain name services, which are often associated with privacy issues and other risks (such as hijacking, denial of service attacks, and phishing attacks).
A brave representative told Cointelegraph that the new browser integration uses Cloudflare’s DNS over HTTPS method by default to resolve unstoppable domains. As Brave co-founder and CTO Brian Bondy pointed out, integration can also be configured in Brave settings to solve the Ethereum blockchain. “There is an additional setting that can only be set from the setting named Ethereum shown below. After setting this option, the solution will happen directly on the Ethereum blockchain, and the page will generate an IPFS CID.” He explained.
In contrast to traditional domains that are stored on behalf of users by custodians such as GoDaddy or Google Domains, .crypto domains are stored in cryptocurrency wallets. When a user declares a blockchain domain, it will be minted on the Ethereum blockchain with an irreplaceable token, thereby providing complete ownership and control. Such domains can also point to content or cryptocurrency addresses hosted on the Interplanetary File System, simplifying the process of sending and receiving encryption on wallets and exchanges such as Coinbase.
“Unblockable domain names are perfect for us, enabling our users to access decentralized websites and access any .crypto domain name. From registering a .crypto domain to hosting NFT art galleries, to sending and receiving encryption, for Brave users, The possibilities are endless.” Brave co-founder and chief technology officer Brian Bondy said.
“We see Web3 as the future of the Internet, where everyone owns and controls their own content. The integration of Brave and Unstoppable Domains means that you can easily access the decentralized Internet without decentralized browser extensions or custom DNS settings.” Unstoppable Domains Founder and CEO Matthew Gould pointed out.
As previously reported by Cointelegraph, the .crypto domain can already be used in mainstream browsers in the following ways: Cloudflare integration Since February this year. April, an encryption-friendly web browser Opera expands .crypto support integration To browsers on all platforms (including iOS, Android, Windows, Mac or Linux).
