The death toll from the disaster climbed to 32 and thousands of people were left homeless. On Tuesday, the strong aftershock of the Nyiragongo volcano shook the eastern city of Goma in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Goma is a city on the shore of Lake Kivu, only 12 kilometers (approximately 7 miles) from Mount Nyiragongo.
