New South Wales Health Minister Brad Hazzard reported 210 new cases in New South Wales after 105,963 tests in the past 24 hours.
81 cases occurred in southwestern Sydney, and 72 cases occurred in Western Sydney.
Since the start of the latest outbreak on June 16, New South Wales now has 3190 local infections.
Sadly, a man in his 60s from southwest Sydney has died, bringing the total death toll in New South Wales to 70.
“Similarly, unfortunately, the focus has always been on that area, and I will ask everyone in the area to stay at home,” he told the media.
“Never visit another family. This is still a very dangerous activity, and the virus continues to spread.”
Mr. Hazzard warned young people to be alert to the dangers of the Delta variant. There are 6 people in their 20s in the ICU. Currently, there are 11 people under the age of 40 in the intensive care unit across the state.
“This is very worrying,” he said. “The Delta variant prefers young people. It must be spread in the youth community. I want to emphasize that two-thirds of the 210 cases obtained locally, and two-thirds are people under 40.
“My message to young people is, please understand that this is a virus that you may be vulnerable to. You may eventually become one of our positive cases, or you may end up in hospital and spread the virus.”
