After disciplinary proceedings related to discriminatory messages sent in group chats, Portsmouth has released three players from their academy.
This League One Earlier this month, after England was defeated by Italy in the Euro 2020 final, some private conversations between players under the age of 18 appeared on social media, and the two sides began an investigation.
Once it is determined that there is a case that needs to be answered, disciplinary action will be initiated and the three young people have been released.
“We can confirm that a decision has been made today to release three players from the academy. These players do have the right to appeal the club’s decision,” the club statement said.
“Portsmouth Football Club is fully committed to eliminating all forms of discrimination. We are part of a diverse community and are committed to always promoting an environment of equality and tolerance within the football club and in the wider society.
“We also continue to respectfully call on everyone to consider when using social media posts directed at any club employee and any other external parties.”
