Joey Jodison is one of the founding members of the heavy metal band Slipknot. His family confirmed in a statement that he has passed away at the age of 46.
Former slipknot drummer Joey Jodison has died at the age of 46.
His family said in a statement that the founding member of the American popular heavy metal band and the guitarist of the horror punk band Murderdolls, “died peacefully in his sleep.”
A statement from Jodison’s family read: “We are sad to share the news that prolific drummer, musician and artist Joey Jodison passed away peacefully in his sleep on July 26, 2021.”
“Joy’s death left us with empty hearts and indescribable sadness. For those who know Joey, understand his wit, gentle personality, huge heart, and his love for family and music.
“Joy’s family requires friends, fans and the media to respect our need for privacy and peace at this extremely difficult time. This is understandable. The family will hold a private funeral and ask the media and the public to respect their wishes.”
Jordison is one of the founding members of Slipknot, which created a new wave of heavy metal bands in the United States in the 1990s.
In 2013, Slipknot announced through the official website that Jodison had left the band for personal reasons, but Jodison soon claimed that he was actually fired. At the time, he issued a statement saying that Slipknot “has been my life for the past 18 years. Never give it up, or my fans”.
After three years of silence after the controversial resignation, Jodison revealed in 2016 that he had transverse myelitis, a neurological disease that prevented him from playing drums.
In 2018, Jodison talked about suffering from the disease in depth, saying that the symptoms began in 2010 and he was temporarily unable to use his legs and was unable to play drums until he recovered.
However, he said that he recovered with the help of medical help and intense work in the gym.
