Scott Morrison said that as the state’s Covid-19 outbreak worsened, he was “close” to reaching an agreement with New South Wales to provide additional financial support.
Scott Morrison said he was “very close” to reaching an agreement with New South Wales on support for the economic crisis, as the state’s Covid-19 outbreak may get out of control.
“The Ministry of Finance of New South Wales and the Commonwealth have been cooperating. We expect to make some final proposals later tonight,” the prime minister told Sky News on Monday.
The plan is expected to be officially announced on Tuesday.
Mr Morrison said that New South Wales and the federal government can “solve”He plans to go to New South Wales on Monday morning.
“We have been working closely with them-talking constantly,” Mr. Morrison said.
New South Wales announced 112 new Covid-19 cases on Monday morning, the largest one-day increase this year.
Last week, Mr. Morrison waived the US$325 and US$500 emergency payments to New South Wales residents living in Covid-19 hotspots from the US$10,000 liquid assets ceiling.
He said that the updated support plan will include more support for enterprises.
“One of the most effective things (apart from income support) (during 2020) is cash flow,” he told Sky News.
“We already have revenue support…you have to add business cash flow support, which will enable the business to survive in the next few weeks.”
Labor leader Anthony Albanese criticized Mr Morrison for not resuming the JobKeeper plan.
“If the situation is the same as it was when the support was provided, why not provide support now?” Mr. Albanian said Sunday.
Mr Morrison emphasized that the federal government provided more than A$10 billion in funding to businesses in New South Wales last year.
“This is a major move because it gives companies a lot of confidence,” he said.
