The Australians helped a couple with three young children, who suffered a heartbreaking blow after being diagnosed with cancer.
Last August, Kirsten Rasmussen had just given birth to her first daughter Estelle, when she discovered a lump in her breast.
When she was diagnosed with stage 2 breast cancer, it should have been a warm time for the mother of three children and turned into a heartbreak.
When her husband Pete and their children, 6-year-old Will, 4-year-old Tommy and Jr. Estelle struggled to deal with the news, they received another heartbreaking blow.
Two weeks after Mrs. Rasmussen received her last radiotherapy, Mr. Rasmussen was rushed to the hospital after multiple seizures, but was told the incredible thing-he had stage 2 brain cancer.
The Hobart man received a tragic news that he could only live for 7 to 10 years.
“I found myself in the Royal Hospital. Many doctors were looking at me and asked if I could see, if I was okay and if I had a headache,” he told the media Hobart Mercury.
“The tumor is in an inoperable position. If surgery is to be performed, I may be deaf and unable to speak, or I may or may not be conscious.
“The doctor said I would become the definition of living vegetables.”
Mrs. Rasmussen, the kindergarten teacher, and Mr. Rasmussen, the teacher of the Junior School of Saint Virgil College, were unable to work.
Family and friends decided to set up a GoFundMe The page received an enthusiastic response.
In just one day, more than $80,000 has been donated to the goal of $200,000.
“I don’t even know the names of many people on the list, I don’t even know,” Mr. Rasmussen told the media. HG.
“Kirsten has already fought, and my hair is still longer than hers-this kind of support means the whole world, and it gives me some comfort when I leave.”
Mr. Rasmussen said: “At the end of the day, my wife will be bringing three children and a mortgage, so every dollar really helps.”
Although Mrs. Rasmussen’s condition has improved and she is currently cancer free, she still has more surgery to do.
Mr. Rasmussen said: “I have asked my brother if he can take my daughter down the aisle.”
“We are busy with life and work, so when things get really serious, it’s nice to know that you have support.”
