Authorities are scrambling to understand why a man keeps receiving calls from a landline in a collapsed building in Miami.
According to reports, after the Florida building collapsed, a man whose grandparents were unaccounted for said that he had been bombarded by strange and mysterious calls from landlines in their sunken apartment.
Jack Samuelson told local media WBLG that he had received at least 16 calls from his missing grandparents, Ani and Miriam Notkin.
The report said that when he answered the phone, he heard only static sound every time.
“We are trying to rationalize what happened here, and we are trying to find the answer,” Samuelson told the TV station.
He said that the first call came on Thursday night, a few hours later An early morning disaster that caused at least 9 deaths and dozens of people unaccounted for.
Samuelson told the media: “Our whole family, Diane, and my mother were all sitting in the living room. We were all shocked.” “We didn’t expect it because we answered it, and it was static.”
According to reports, his grandparents are both in their 80s and live in Apartment 302 in Champlain Tann. Their landline phone is usually by the bed.
According to the station’s report, on Friday, Samuelson said that his family received 15 more unexplainable calls from the number.
Samuelson added that the family is now waiting for detectives to hear about these strange and distressing calls.
According to the media, his 87-year-old grandfather, Ani, is a beloved physical education teacher, and 81-year-old Miriam is a banker and real estate agent.
North Miami Beach Commissioner Fortuna Smukler, who grew up with Notkins’ three daughters, told the Miami Herald that when she learned that the couple lived in apartment 302, she began to lose hope.
“At this point, it will be a miracle… we hope a miracle will happen,” she said.
