Compared to neighboring countries with smaller populations, New South Wales appears to receive more vaccine doses-but an expert warns that this vaccine is unlikely to immediately alleviate the state’s escalating coronavirus outbreak.
Following Monday’s national cabinet meeting, New South Wales Governor Gladys Berekiklian confirmed that states will allocate coronavirus vaccine doses based on population.
On Monday, the outbreak of the highly contagious Delta covid variant in Sydney increased to 11 cases, and 4 new cases were recorded.
Ms. Berejiklian said: “Of course, the information provided today confirms that states are providing vaccine doses based on population, which is a relief.”
“New South Wales is still in a state of emergency in terms of vaccine launch.

To date, Australia has received more than 6.59 million vaccines, of which New South Wales has received 1.9 million vaccines.
In New South Wales, only 43% of people over the age of 50 and people over the age of 70 received at least one dose, while the proportions of people over 50 and over 70 in the country were 48% and 65, respectively. %.
Australia will receive 1.7 million doses of Pfizer this month, which will increase to 2.8 million doses in July. As of Monday, states and territories have approximately 800,000 doses of Pfizer drugs on hand.
According to reports, the NSW Vaccination Centre will receive an additional 50,000 doses of Pfizer vaccine in the next three weeks.
Lieutenant General John Freewin stated that Australia is still expected to provide the first dose of Covid-19 vaccine to every eligible person in Australia by the end of 2021.
Ms. Berejiklian and Victorian Acting Governor James Merlino stated that their state vaccine launch is subject to federal government dose limits.
“This is a setback for the plan because we now have more people vaccinated with Pfizer’s limited supply,” Mr. Melino said.
The shortage of Pfizer vaccines will slow down Australia’s launch in June and July. States and territories hope that the federal government will contract more general practitioners to distribute vaccines when supplies increase in August.
Ms. Berejiklian reiterated her view based on “expert advice” that before further relaxing restrictions, she needs to vaccinate 70-80% of the population in her state.
“We are limited by the dose, which is beyond my control,” she said.
“I think we need to be more ambitious to vaccinate our population. We consider the speed of opening up and the speed at which we consider COVID-normal, otherwise we will be left behind.”
Professor Peter Collignon, an infectious disease expert at the Australian National University, said that the hasty launch of the vaccine is unlikely to help the current outbreak in New South Wales.
“If you are vaccinated, it takes two to three weeks for the production of antibodies and white blood cells,” he said this project.
“So almost all of these clusters tend to last two to three weeks and then get under control so far. If we have a situation like Melbourne, you would want to distribute more to that state.”
Professor Collignon said that the problem with the outbreak in Australia now is that the authorities “never know where the new cluster may occur” and “it may be Brisbane next week”.
