After the state introduced mask regulations to combat the spread of the virus, New South Wales has recorded two local cases of infection in the past 24 hours.
One of the cases was announced on Friday morning and included in the figures on Saturday.
Earlier news reported that another coronavirus case was infected with the virus while shopping at Myer Bondi Junction, and a limousine driver is believed to be the center of the latest outbreak.
Health Minister Brad Hazzard said that when authorities believed that the driver had the virus, the latest case was 10 to 60 cm away from the driver.
Mr. Hazzard said the two people stayed close to each other in the shopping mall “no more than a few seconds.”
“This delta virus seems to be an immediate danger,” he said on Saturday.
New South Wales Chief Health Officer Kerry Chant previously stated that the driver had spread the delta strain of the virus.
Masks must be worn on public transport in Greater Sydney and the Blue Mountains, but not in Wollongong and the Central Coast. The new rules will last until next week.
