After a blow led by Agence France-Presse knocked down hundreds of so-called leaders, some of the world’s largest criminal organizations are now in ruins.
In the event known as the “Spur of the Century,” hundreds of people were arrested as part of a global campaign against terrorist organizations, mafia organizations, and illegal motorcycle gangs.
“Today, as part of a global action, the Australian government has dealt a heavy blow to organized crime-not only in this country, but also in organized crime around the world,” said Prime Minister Scott Morrison. .
“This is a watershed in the history of Australian law enforcement… Everything we do is to ensure the safety of Australians.”
Three years ago, the Australian Federal Police (AFP) and the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) cooperated to establish Operation Railroad, aimed at combating triad people.
Hundreds of suspected criminals were tricked into communicating via AN0M, an encrypted application designed by the police.
More than 100 members of the Australian mafia and motorcycle underworld were arrested on suspicion of using the app to plan executions, drug imports and money laundering, which is part of the country’s largest criminal activity in history.
As the authorities carried out full-scale raids around the world, police in Europe and the United States arrested hundreds of people.
Agence France-Presse said it has uncovered 21 murder conspiracies, prevented more than 3,000 kilograms of drugs from taking to the streets, and confiscated 35 million US dollars in cash.
AFP Commissioner Reece Kershaw stated that the organization “caused the greatest damage to serious organized crime.”
Mr Kershaw added: “It has devastating consequences for those who try to harm the interests of Australians and Australia, and today, thanks to this unprecedented action led by AFP, Australia has become a safer country.”
More than 4,000 law enforcement officers participated in the execution of 525 search warrants in Australia.
“Ironside has arrested and charged us with calling them the most dangerous criminals in Australia,” Mr. Kershaw said.
“We claim that they are members of illegal motorcycle gangs, Australian mafia, Asian criminal groups, and serious organized criminal groups.
“We claim that they have been trafficking illicit drugs to Australia on an industrial scale.
“Sadly, criminal gangs are targeting Australia because it is one of the most profitable countries in the world for drug trafficking, and this activity has been carried out in secret for three years.
Australian law enforcement agencies have been arresting and prosecuting accused criminals, and we have prevented tons of drugs from coming ashore. “
Mr. Kershaw said that the sting led to the arrest of dozens of so-called “king makers”.
“We prevented mass shootings in the suburbs and thwarted serious organized crime by confiscating their ill-gotten wealth.
“As of today, we have charged 224 suspected lawbreakers, including 525 charges.
“Six secret laboratories were closed and 21 homicide threats were taken, including saving a family of five… 104 guns and weapons and nearly 45 million U.S. dollars in cash were seized.
“These numbers may increase in the coming days.
“In general, these accused criminals will face imprisonment that may last hundreds of years, and some of the charges they face will be sentenced to life imprisonment.”
Mr. Kershaw said that although the FBI is in a leading position in the investigation, AFP has provided “technical capabilities capable of deciphering information.”
Operation Ironside stopped mass shooting
Although the investigation has been going on for many years and arrests are made from time to time, Mr. Kershaw said that the accused criminals did not know they were the target.
“Let me make it clear. When you get access and appear in court, you will see that they are talking about drugs, violence, assaults on each other, and innocent people will be murdered,” he said.
“(The text) is like,’I need 1000 kg for this price.’ Very brazen. No attempt to hide behind any kind of codification type conversation…including’We will have a speedboat to meet you in this place ……'”
The app also helped the police prevent a mass shooting by an organized crime organization on a family of five.
Mr. Kershaw said: “This particular case will be announced later where they plan to use the machine gun, and it may appear in cafes where people will undoubtedly be harmed.”
With the cooperation of that particular state police force, we were able to take that person away before they could do so. “
Mr. Kershaw said that the person who planned the mass shooting was arrested some time ago, but other people suspected of participating are still under investigation.
