“The mice started to enter our bed-biting our fingers and toes”
Maria started hearing talks about rats entering people’s homes near northwestern New South Wales in early February this year.
But at the time, she didn’t think too much, because she and her family hadn’t seen the mouse near home for a long time.
Maria recalled sadly: “I didn’t know how bad they were until about two weeks later.”
“I woke up at about 1:00 in the morning because there was a racket in the kitchen-when I turned on the light, mice ran around… there were hundreds. I was shocked. I had never seen so many things before.”
Within a few days, the home was submerged by wild rodents-shortly afterwards, the mousetrap was capturing hundreds of mice every night.
“The situation got worse and soon we didn’t have enough traps or even got into the slightest. They started entering our bed-biting our fingers and toes,” Maria explained.
Around this time, the mouse tore off Maria’s daughter’s earrings, making her ears red and scratched.

“The rat destroyed the three super-heavy trucks we filled”
The rats also severely harmed the family’s property-eating up all their paws, including the $600 worth of food in the cupboard.
Maria walked through the house and cleaned up all the damaged things on the mouse, including children’s clothing, shoes, linens, curtains, toys and DVDs.
She finally said: “I ended up throwing away the three-pack.” She said that these rats have cost them thousands of dollars.
Outside, the rats also deprived all animals in the property of feed, making Maria and her husband unable to feed their livestock.
Maria added anxiously: “Our poor dogs, pigs and pigs even have bite marks where the rats attacked them.”
The family trapped the house and installed huge traps in large buckets around the property, trapping as many as 500 rats every day and night.

It soon became obvious that these defensive abilities were not enough to resist the rat group.
Maria frantically began to put everything left in the house into the big plastic basin that rats could not enter.
She hopes that by eliminating all food sources for rats, they will move on-unfortunately, this doesn’t seem to happen yet.
Therefore, just three months after the outbreak of the plague, the family continued to live in a place surrounded by plastic boxes, constantly defending themselves from terrible intrusions.
Maria has always been worried that her family will be sick, so she spends all her free time frantically cleaning up the rodents.
She is also afraid of using the oven and stove at the same time, worrying that this might cause the rats to catch fire, because the rats eat through the wires. This happened to a family in Narrabri last week.

Maria admits emotionally: “It’s so hard and hard-I’m very tired of smells and mess.”
“I just want everything to stop and return to normal-but I think this is our normal now.
“I’m still sleeping, and there are 10 mouse traps around the bed that go out every 10 minutes.
“It’s not good for anyone to endure it. How much money the government gives us, but it’s not enough.
“We have been told to hang there because the mouse will stop soon… but I don’t know how much I can take.”
