7 Things to Know Before Traveling With Your Favourite Vape

Traveling anywhere can be stressful. There’s checking in, getting through security without dropping all of your worldly possessions at the feet of unamused staff, gate numbers, departure times, turbulence, getting your connections on time. In short, it’s a cluster of things that can and often will go wrong.

Why add to that pressure? There’s simply no point in stressing yourself out this much when what you’re meant to be doing is relaxing and settling into a good time. If you’re planning on going somewhere with your favourite vaping equipment whether it’s a naturally portable vaporizer or a bit bigger like a desktop vaporizer, we’ve got some tips for you.

So what can you do?

Pack Your Things Carefully

Right out of the gate this should be the first thing you do. Of course, if you’re packing a vape pen, this probably won’t be as pertinent because they’re so small and convenient. But if you plan on taking something like a Volcano Classic, make sure that it’s disassembled as much as possible and all your gear is separated carefully. And, of course, don’t forget a replacement bag!

It’s also important that it’s easily reachable. Inevitably you have to put it through a scanner or show it to someone, like security. Traveling with vaping equipment isn’t illegal but it’s likely you’ll encounter some who might not know what a portable vaporizer is. So, make sure it’s easily accessible and that it’s packed in such a way that you don’t damage anything delicate. And have your explanations on the tip of your tongue.

Even When You Travel Alone, You’re Not

Okay, it sounds vaguely scary but bear with me. So packing is a bit of a drag, we moan and complain and try and bribe our friends to do it instead, but here’s something that may help to keep in mind:

You’re not packing for you.

Well, no, okay, of course you are. No one else wants your twenty-six bandanas signed by Willie Nelson. But what I mean is, when you’ve packed to the best of your ability, everyone else is going to have a good time. Airport security staff will wave you ahead, you well-organized human. The people lining up behind you at security will applaud your organization skills because you’re the person that didn’t stop them missing their flight. Everything will go much, much easier. So find a designated place to pack your desktop vaporizer, disassemble the parts as best you can, and be prepared.

Airport Security

Airport security is there to make sure that your trip goes as smoothly and efficiently as possible. That’s how you need to look at them. Not as adversaries but as people who also want you to have a good time. Kinda.

People working at airport security aren’t trying to bust you on possession charges they’re looking out for bomb threats and genuine physical dangers to both cabin crew and passengers. Actual threats to genuine aviation security. If they even see your G Pen Elite, they’ll likely wave you on, though, because it’s so understated and sleek looking.

Of course, this varies depending on the airport you’re going into. There are horror stories from airports in places like Thailand and the U.A.E. where possession of marijuana in even minuscule amounts could land you serious jail time. In such situations, you might want to reconsider whether taking these things with you is worth it at all. But generally, the airport staff aren’t out to get you. Pack your things, be polite and also…

Know Your Airport

Different airports, different rules. Of course, this is especially crucial if you happen to be flying into Abu Dhabi or have a connection in Phnom Penh but it’s also something that’s worth bearing in mind even when traveling between Portland and Denver. Each airport has their own do’s and don’ts regarding vaping. Make sure that you’re aware of what these are before you find yourself face-to-face with airport staff.

Now, of course, you’re going to be stopped or delayed if you’re attempting to traffic pounds of marijuana. But if you’re just a regular consumer with maybe an ounce of marijuana, and if you’re reading this you must be, then you’ll likely have no problems. Which brings us to the next tip.

Research Where You’re Going

Basically, knowing the rules is the main take away from all this. This includes knowing the restrictions for the airport you fly from, the one you’re going to, and the country or state that it’s in. Each state, district, and country have their own rules and regulations that you need to be aware of.

Getting stopped by security in a place where marijuana or vaping kits are totally illegal is not a good place to be in. And just because it’s legal in the place you came from that’s not a credible defense. So get your facts together and proceed with caution.

Checked Luggage

There was a time in the not-so-distant past when you were able to take anything you liked on board flights. But then silly (read: sensible) laws came in and now it is not quite so simple. First of all, batteries are a big no-no when it comes to checked luggage.

E-liquids are just that, liquids, so treat them as such. Make sure that you’ve emptied them into a suitable container before your flight. Containers that are larger than 3.4 ounces (100ml) have to be checked regardless of the amount that is actually inside of them.

Carry On

Like we said batteries are a no go for checked luggage but you can take them in your carry-on. They must be on your person at all times and some airlines would prefer if you didn’t put them in the overhead storage, either. There are no limits to the size of the batteries you can take but they must be for passenger use. There are even some regulations that say you shouldn’t put them into the overhead storage space.

Instead, keep them separated and out of your vaporizer. If for any reason you can’t take the chargers out of your marijuana vaporizer then make sure to remove the atomizer from your vape.

If you’re planning on carrying your liquids on board the plane then remember to empty them from the e-liquid tank. The pressure changes during your flight will cause them to leak. And 3.4 ounce (100ml) or smaller sized containers must be placed inside a resealable bag.

Enjoy Your Trip

Most importantly for all this is your own enjoyment, you want to have the best trip possible so prepare. Traveling with bigger, desktop vaporizers like the Arizer Extreme Q will have a different set of issues than carrying a crafty vape. Make sure you’re aware of these before you travel and pack all the essentials.

And that’s it, I hope these 7 tips have been helpful for you and that this advice eases your passage through the skies. Just follow the rules and be polite whenever possible and you should have no problems. Wherever you end up going, have a great time, and enjoy some quality vapor.
