Grocery chains will increasingly rely on innovative delivery methods as they seek to meet customer needs safely and effectively. In September, we announced the establishment of the first partnership with The Save Mart Companies, a large American grocery chain, to deliver customers’ favorite products to their doorsteps on-demand and instantly.
As students return to university, our robots have been busy providing contactless, fast and affordable delivery services on campus. The number of autonomous deliveries has been growing, setting records every week. We plan to expand to many new universities in 2021.
As we move to the next chapter, Lex Bayer stepped down as CEO of Starship from June 2018 to October 2020. During his tenure, the number of deliveries made by the company’s autonomous robots increased from 5,000 to more than 500,000, traveling more than 10,000 miles. We are proud of the growth and achievements of Starship during this period, and thank Lex for his contribution, and wish him all the best in his future endeavours.
As we look for the best person to lead the company into the future, I will serve as interim CEO. Since co-founding Starship with Janus Friis in 2014, I have been proud to be involved in realizing our vision, including serving as CEO for nearly four years and most recently as CTO.
By early 2021, we expect to achieve one-millionth automatic delivery. The reason why we can come this far is due to our innovative and world-leading robot fleet, but more importantly, the outstanding team has made our company what it is today. I can’t wait to share more news about our starship journey as soon as possible.
