Raj Tahil believes that MIT inspired his entrepreneurial instincts. “I learned to treat problems as interesting opportunities,” said the president of Torpac Capsules, which specializes in custom capsules and pharmaceutical equipment. In the spirit of creating opportunity, Tahil and his spouse Mary Jo Wrenn created an MIT Donor Advice Fund (DAF)-an increasingly popular way to simplify charitable donations.
The benefits of DAF. MIT DAF enables donors to establish a charity account maintained and managed by MIT Investment Management Company, from which they can be distributed to MIT and other charitable organizations. For Tahil and Wrenn, the speed of deployment of DAF funds played a role at a critical moment: in the spring of 2020, they distributed DAF to the laboratories of Professor J. Christopher Love, Professor Raymond A. and Professor Helen E. St. Laurent Chemical Engineering. Chairs to support laboratories’ efforts to develop affordable covid-19 vaccines.
A global perspective on the environment and health. The couple gave back to MIT in a variety of ways, including providing scholarships to support graduate students who are conducting research to improve the environment through science, engineering, or public policy solutions. Tahil particularly appreciates MIT’s research on the environment and medicine. “MIT is contributing to a better world by applying its holistic, multidisciplinary approach to solving problems in various fields,” he said.
