In Steven Spielberg’s 1977 classic The third type of intimate contact, an ordinary person gets involved in a major event involving an alien visitor.TV writer Andrea Kyle Said the film continued to fill her with awe.
“It’s better than most movies I’ve seen, including the special effects,” Kyle says in episode 498 Geek Guide to the Galaxy podcast. “It’s shocking how well it’s done. It doesn’t look dated at all. I think it’s an amazing film.”
science fiction writer Matthew Cressel Said the film should be a model for screenwriters everywhere. “It’s Spielberg’s best film to date,” he said. “I researched. I don’t write for TV or film—I write novels—but just rhythm, timing. It’s so perfect. Everything is so rhythmic.”
Geek Guide to the Galaxy host David Barr Kirtley agree Close contact It’s visually and emotionally good, but found the aliens’ behavior a little too puzzling. “Why use music to communicate if they’ve already kidnapped people from World War II?” he said. “Why didn’t they realize that when they kidnapped her baby, mom would be scared?”
but humorist Manager Tom Love the film’s many mysteries that have fascinated him for over 40 years. “I really like that they didn’t go back and make prequels or sequels to try and answer all the questions,” he said. “I don’t want someone to go in and say, ‘This is the official canonical explanation of what’s really going on.’ Because what I like more is what it creates in my head, where I can study this huge mystery.”

Andrea Kyle The third type of intimate contact:
if a [movie scene] Seems like a long time, I’ll go back and time it, just for my own good, as a writer. Every scene that looks really long – every time – is only 3 minutes. Anything that looks really long is 3:30. So I actually started the clock while watching the movie. The longest was 3:30 – the first air traffic control scene and the fight scene in the house, the kids screaming, she screaming at him, and he ignoring her. Actually, it’s really painful to watch. Both scenes are 3:30, which usually means it’s a very long scene. But I found that they were both very, very nervous. I think they are doing very well.
Matthew Cressel Explorer:
I remember hating it as a kid when we met aliens because I thought they were really tacky and stupid. But as an adult, I think it actually contains a very clever message. It’s almost like theClose contact. We expect aliens to be these spiritual, giant, intelligent beings who impart all this wisdom, and they’re probably just as screwed up as we are. I love that kid watching the giant alien yell at the two alien kids and he’s like, “Oh, that’s dad.” He knows it. He recognized that chaos exists throughout the universe, not just home on Earth. I enjoyed that part.
David Barr Kirtley dark star:
This is a collaboration [John Carpenter] and Dan O’Bannon, who were film students at the University of Southern California at the time. It started out as a 45-minute student film, and then somehow it was shown to an executive who said, ‘Oh, we can turn this into a real movie. So they added a bunch of stuff, including the whole beach ball alien thing, and stuffed it to feature length. … [O’Bannon] Combined with this episode of him hunting down aliens, it was supposed to be funny, but when he showed it to people, no one laughed. He was like, “Well, maybe I should make it not funny.” So he rewrote it to Alienthis is where the movie is Alien from.
Tom Grunther create:
“It’s one of those movies that I watch every few years and I absolutely love it. It has a cool story. It’s not science fiction – it’s fantasy with a tech background. It brings together people my age. So many cool elements that people have been immersed in since childhood – gladiator movies, video game culture, religion – and take them together and synthesize them into this new, imaginative world. … this Electronic games It was huge when it came out. That’s my favorite video game in the arcade. When I get A’s free tokens at school, I go straight into an arcade near us and inject them into it create game. Now, when I watch movies, that video game comes back to me. It’s so much fun. “
