We are continuing with our series on how to save on groceries — even if you don’t have a coupon! These items below are things we need, and purchase, even if we don’t have a coupon or one is never available. Here are a few food items, beginning with the letter “N” which you can purchase in bulk when you find a great deal!

Nectarines

  • Keep them in the coldest part of your refrigerator after ripened for up to 4 days and stored in a plastic bag

  • You can freeze Nectarines for 8-12 months, slice them, and toss them into a freezer bag. Pull them out to use on ice cream, yogurt, and baking

  • For a great snack when dried. Peel, pit, and slice before drying in a dehydrator or oven

  • Once dried, store in an airtight container or package in a cool and dry place

Noodles

Noodles, who doesn’t have some form of noodle in their stockpile?

  • Since noodles are often dried, this is one of the easiest food items to find at a good price and stock up on when it’s at its lowest price

  • A couple of times a year, you can find 1lb boxes for $0.50 or less, at this time pick up a 4-6 month supply to help save

  • The best place to store noodles? In a cool dry place

Nuts

Nuts can be very expensive if you buy them just when you need them, so make sure to watch for deals all year long!

  • Nuts are a great item to stock up on when you find a good deal. Often times having an expiration date 12-18 months after the date of purchase, make sure to look at all those expiration dates!

  • Another great way to save is to look for nuts in bulk, they are usually about 25-40% less than buying them pre-packaged

  • If you find raw nuts (not prepackaged at the store), you can use the following guidelines when storing: Room Temperature for 3 months, Refrigerator for six months, and in the freezer for one or more years
