How to Roast Potatoes in the Oven
I like to use russet potatoes, but you could also use Yukon Gold or Idaho. You’ll also need olive oil spray, not to be confused with cooking spray and salt. When you’re ready to bake, follow these steps:
- First, preheat the oven to 425 degrees and line a baking sheet with foil or parchment paper.
- Prepare potatoes by washing and drying them. Then, prick the potato with the tip of a fork.
- Next, season the potatoes with salt, place them on the prepared baking sheet, and spray them with olive oil.
- Season well with kosher salt, then transfer them to the preheated oven to bake.
- Bake for 50 to 60 minutes, until the potato skins are golden and crispy and you can easily pierce the potatoes with a knife.
Microwave Baked Potatoes
- Cook the potatoes for 3 to 4 minutes, then turn over and cook for another 3 to 4 minutes.
- For each additional potato, add 1 minute per side.
- If still firm, continue cooking in 1-minute increments until potatoes are tender
Tips for Perfect Baked Potatoes
Don’t wrap it in foil. While you might be tempted to wrap the potatoes in foil, doing so won’t give you the very crispy skin we’re looking for here. Letting the potatoes unpack will give you the best results.
Sprinkle salt on the outside. Skin is rich in fiber, so don’t toss it! To make it delicious you need to add salt so it’s nice and crispy.
