2021 “Best” Holiday Special: Haiti’s Transition to Modern Finance

This episode is organized by Quantstamp, Nexo.io and Kucoin.

This week and next week, we will spend a year-end holiday from the new episode of “Reimagining Money”. Instead, we offer a few of our favorites this year.

This week’s choice is Sheila Warren: The Haitian TV Show on May 21st.

It was then that Sheila and co-host Michael Casey joined the ranks of Haitian writer, entrepreneur and politician Jerry Tardieu, who represented Petion-ville in the House of Representatives. ) And Zimbali (Zimbali) co-founder and COO Daniele Jean-Pierre (Daniele Jean-Pierre) network, provides smart ledger solutions for the decentralized economy.

The couple led us through the history of Haiti and showed how the shameful debt of the slavery era and the century-long legacy continue to be a burden on the country. The debts collected by France to punish Haitian citizens for freeing themselves from slave owners in the 1804 independence rebellion became American-owned assets and were served by a bank that later became Citibank. In this sense, this long-standing problem is directly related to the power and dominance of Wall Street in the era of dollar hegemony. This power is theoretically challenged by cryptocurrency and blockchain technology.

The discussion then turned to what technologies or other solutions might exist to create a system that empowers people instead of making them dependent on charities and foreign aid, with all conditions attached.

This episode reminds us why the ideas behind encryption and blockchain are important.

This episode was produced, edited and announced by Michel Mousso. Our holiday theme song is “Father Christmas” by Cody Martin.
