Steam and diabetes: things to be aware of
The e-liquid cloud produced by vape is very different from the smoke in cigarettes. They work completely differently and have very different compositions. Unfortunately, as of this writing, the long-term effects of nebulization are unclear, so we cannot give any specific answers on how nebulization and diabetes affect each other. What we can do is to carefully study the common components of e-liquid and explain their relationship with blood pressure and blood sugar level concerns.
The two main components of e-liquid are propylene glycol and vegetable glycerin. There is currently no research showing that they have any effect on blood pressure or blood sugar levels. Another main ingredient to pay attention to in e-liquid is flavoring agent, the content of which may vary. Currently, the absence of flavoring ingredients in e-liquids in the UK can exacerbate the symptoms of diabetes.
For flavor and texture reasons, some e-liquids will contain other sugars, which are known to increase the symptoms of diabetes. However, because of their high concentration in most e-liquids, you must absorb a large amount of e-cigarettes to play a significant role.
As mentioned above, any nicotine present in e-liquid can make diabetes worse. Regarding CBD-infused e-liquid, a special study in 2016 linked the use of CBD and the cannabinoid THCV with lowering blood sugar levels and increasing insulin production in patients with type 2 diabetes. Although this is a positive result, the study ultimately concluded that the necessary concentrations of both compounds require sublingual oily media to produce significant effects. Since THCV is usually lacking in e-liquid, any e-liquid injected with CBD is unlikely to be beneficial to diabetics.
Ultimately, like many problems, the relatively new nature of the e-cigarette industry is dealing with it. The lack of trials means that the long-term effects of nebulization are still unknown, so the final effects of nebulization and diabetes are still difficult to determine.
