Of all the ways to cook potatoes, I never thought a simple baked potato would be the way to get me to use the word “beyond”, but here we are: Air Fryer Baked Potatoes. Crisp on the outside and incredibly fluffy on the inside, the air fryer is without a doubt the best way to bake potatoes I’ve come across.

I don’t hate baked potatoes per se (I do have a pulse).
unlike Air Fryer French Fries or Oven Baked Potatoes, however, I look for them more as toppings (ahem, Air Fryer Bacon) rather than the potatoes themselves.
That is, until I tried roasting potatoes in the air fryer.
- The skin becomes very dark, shiny, and crisp.
- The inside will steam into a soft pillow, ready to be fluffy.
- I am very happy with the texture of the air fryer potatoes and I am happy to keep the toppings light (of course you can take notes from this loadout Crock Pot Potato Soup and decorate it as you wish).

The air fryer itself offers its own benefits, too.
- The air fryer keeps the heat in the kitchen to a minimum as it roasts potatoes in a neat space.
- While cooking potatoes, your regular oven is free for other jobs.
- Air fryers are faster than regular ovens.
- Less oil is required to create the craving crispy exterior, making the air fryer a healthy cooking option for potatoes.

How to Air Fry Baked Potatoes
All it takes is a little oil and a pinch of salt to make a better slam dunk baked potato than your favorite steakhouse.
tip!
Depending on your air fryer model and the size of your potatoes, the time to cook baked potatoes in the air fryer will vary.
- Small and Medium Potatoes (8 to 12 ounces): Air fry for 35 to 45 minutes.
- large potatoes (12 oz or more): Air fry for 45 to 55 minutes.
I tested this recipe with my Ninja Air Fryer Baked Potatoes (This is my air fryer model).
Depending on your model, you may need to adjust the cooking time. When in doubt, check early. You can always cook longer, but overcooked potatoes can’t be undone.

- Salt. Adds texture and flavor to potato skins.
