Stuffed peppers are one of my favorites Clean eating recipes Do it in advance. They are easy to prepare, portion control and filling. So if you want to put it in your refrigerator Healthy dinner recipes, And then look at stuffed peppers.

More reasons to like to freeze stuffed peppers in advance.

  • You can freeze raw or cooked stuffed peppers. Whether you are planning a future dinner or have leftovers, you can put it in the refrigerator.
  • They retain their delicious taste and texture after freezing and reheating. I successfully frozen various stuffed pepper recipes!
  • Prepare gluten-free options in advance. If you are sensitive or allergic to gluten, you will know how helpful it is to prepare lunch or dinner and prepare it for cooking or eating. You can also make dairy-free, Paleo or Keto-friendly stuffed peppers by exchanging ingredients.

How to freeze stuffed peppers?

I use three different methods to freeze the stuffed peppers in advance.

Method 1: Assemble the recipe and freeze.

This freezing method is very effective when you want to produce and store ready-to-eat chili fillings in large quantities. Usually, I make 2-3 different recipes when stocking.

There are two different ways to use this method.

  • Combine the brewed peppers into a casserole, cover tightly with aluminum foil, and freeze. You can use disposable plates or ceramic plates. This technique is very effective when you plan a whole dish to feed a large family or crowd.
  • Of course, if you don’t need six to eight stuffed peppers at a time, you can also freeze them into smaller dishes. This can be helpful if you are single or have a smaller family.

Since this method uses a bakeware, it does require more freezer space. So, if you don’t have a lot of freezer space, these other methods may be better.

Method 2: Combine the recipe and freeze the brewed chili separately.

This storage method is my favorite method of freezing stuffed peppers, because I only need to cook as many peppers as I want. So, if there is only me, then I only need to cook one.

  • Prepare and fill pepper. If the recipe calls for sauce or broth in the pot, or shredded cheese on top of the chili, I will add these two ingredients on the day I plan to cook.
  • Wrap each stuffed pepper with double-layer plastic wrap, and put the peppers in a large ziploc freezer bag. Of course, don’t forget to label the freezer bag.
  • This method is a great way to get the fully assembled stuffed peppers ready for cooking without taking up a lot of space in the refrigerator.

Method 3: Frozen stuffed pepper stuffing.

If your freezer space is limited, then the following method will be your best choice.

  • Prepare the filling for filling with peppers.
  • Let the filling cool, then place it in an airtight container or large freezer bag. If you use a freezer bag, flatten it to reduce freezer space.
  • On cooking day, you need to make sure to buy bell peppers and any other ingredients. You must also take the time to assemble the rest of the recipe.

Method 4: Cook the brewed peppers completely before freezing.

If I want to reserve a healthy dinner that can be heated and eaten, I would use this freezing method.

  • Cook the recipe for stuffed peppers completely.
  • Let the peppers cool.
  • Place in an airtight container and freeze.
  • I like to freeze 2-4 stuffed peppers into a smaller container instead of freezing the entire recipe in a large container, which makes it easier to prepare smaller portions for lunch or dinner.

How to reheat frozen stuffed peppers?

  • You can cook frozen peppers directly from the refrigerator. Follow the instructions and add another 20-25 minutes of cooking time. Moving from freezing to hot in the oven will cause the plate to crack, so if you freeze peppers in a casserole, place the baking dish at room temperature for about 15-20 minutes before cooking.
  • For wrapped peppers, take them out of the plastic packaging and arrange them in a baking tray. If the recipe calls for sauce or broth, pour it into the bottom of the plate first. Cover with foil and bake for another 20-25 minutes. If you use cheese, uncover the peppers in the last ten minutes of cooking, add the cheese, cover with foil, and continue cooking until the cheese is melted and the peppers are fully cooked.
  • To reheat frozen stuffed pepper stuffing, remove the bag from the refrigerator and thaw it in the refrigerator overnight. Then put the filling in a microwave-safe bowl and heat it on high heat for 3-4 minutes, or until the filling no longer freezes and feels hot to the touch. You don’t need to fill it with heat. Scoop the filling into the stuffed peppers and continue the recipe.
  • You can reheat frozen cooked stuffed peppers in the microwave or oven. In the microwave, place the peppers on a microwave dish or plate and reheat for 3-4 minutes or until hot. In a 350 degree oven, put the stuffed peppers in a baking dish and cook for 20-30 minutes or until hot.
  • Stuffed peppers can also be reheated and cooked in a slow cooker. For instructions, please refer to the individual recipes.

Other freezing and reheating techniques

  • If filling the pepper stuffing needs to be cooked before filling the peppers, then make sure to cool it down before freezing. This step will prevent freezing burns or ice crystals.
  • Use flat-bottomed bell peppers. The flat bottom will keep the peppers upright and avoid tipping over in the casserole.
  • Drain the liquid from the pepper filling. This tip is more relevant when you freeze cooked stuffed peppers. You may notice that after reheating, the pepper will release additional liquid. Don’t worry; this does not affect the taste. Just drain the liquid and enjoy.

Do I need to cook the bell peppers before stuffing them in?

No, you don’t need to cook the bell peppers before filling and freezing them. I have made many recipes for stuffed peppers, and each one will produce a tender and delicious pepper.

How long can stuffed peppers keep in the refrigerator?

Stuffed peppers can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 months. To be honest, I like to freeze stuffed peppers for longer, but a good rule of thumb is to enjoy them within three months.
