As the Zimbabwe Sports and Entertainment Commission suspended the Board of Directors of the Football Association (ZIFA), Zimbabwe’s qualification for the African Cup of Nations final to be held in January next year is at risk on Tuesday.
The announcement was made without explanation. The committee said it would elaborate on it later, but Zimbabwe failed to win a game when Zimbabwe was at the bottom of the World Cup qualifier group.
It will definitely be condemned by FIFA and threatened by the suspension of the world football governing body, which strictly requires the protection of its member football associations from government interference.
Normally, the government is forced to give in under the threat of suspension of all football activities in its country.
In the final World Cup qualifiers held at Harare on Sunday, Zimbabwe was equalized by Ethiopia 1-1.
Its performance in the campaign is in stark contrast to its easy promotion to the National Cup final earlier this year.
During the World Cup qualifiers, it fired Croatian coach Zdravko Logarusic, and on Monday, its captain Khama Billiat unexpectedly withdrew from international football, even with the opportunity to participate in the National Cup a few months later.
The Zimbabwe Football Association has been in a cash crisis for many years. Despite the grace period granted by FIFA, the team was kicked for failing to pay the outstanding debts of former coach Jose Valinhos Claudius. Out of the 2018 World Cup qualifiers.

ZIFA did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
The Sports and Recreation Commission is a statutory body whose mission is to regulate and develop sports and recreation activities in Zimbabwe.
