Roger Federer will not make history at Wimbledon this year. On Wednesday, No. 14 seed Hubert Hekats defeated No. 6 seed Federer in straight sets in the quarterfinals. Hurkacz pushed him to the semifinals with 6-3, 7-6, 6-0 victories, where he will face the champions of No. 7 seed Matteo Berrettini and No. 16 seed Felix Auger Aliassime.
In this game at the All England Club, the 39-year-old Federer became the oldest player to enter the quarter-finals of Wimbledon. At the same time, this marked Hekaz’s first Grand Slam quarter-final appearance.
Hurkacz was in control for most of the game. He won 19 games in total, while Federer had only 9 games. This is Federer’s first straight set at Wimbledon since he won his first Wimbledon championship in 2003.
Federer is chasing his 21st Grand Slam title and his 9th career title at Wimbledon. The Swiss star is currently tied with Rafael Nadal for the most Grand Slam titles in history, with a total of 20 titles.
On the other side of the bracket, No. 1 seed Novak Djokovic defeated Marton Fusovic in straight sets (6-3, 6-4, 6-4) to advance to the semifinals. Face 10th seed Denis Shapovalov.
